The earliest federal census available for the state of Georgia is that for 1820. Those for 1790 and 1810 were lost when the British burned Washington in 1814. A record of the Sparks households found on the 1820 census of the state was published in the Quarterly of September 1971 (Whole No. 75, page 1433). A record of Sparks households found on the 1830 census of Georgia appeared in the Quarterly of March 1977 (Whole No. 97, page 1881). In the Quarterly of December 1982 Whole No. 120, pages 2473-82) we published a record of all persons named Sparks (Sparkes and Spark) found on the 1850 census of Georgia. Here we present a record of all households headed by persons named Sparks (Sparkes and Spark) found on the 1840 census of Georgia. The reader is referred to page 3329 for an interpretation of the information found on the 1840 census, regardless of the state.
