The Father of 1.2.5.10.2.11.1.6 ALBERT CYRUS SPARKS
Was his name 1.2.5.10.2.11.1 JAMES ALBERT SPARKS?

Here, on the cover of this issue of the Quarterly, Whole No. 28, is a photograph which has been made from an old tin-type now in the possession of Mrs. Milby Porter, 1816 Rosedale Avenue, Houston 4, Texas. Although we know very little about this Sparks ancestor, he is known to have been Mrs. Porter's great-grandfather and was the father of 1.2.5.10.2.11.1.6 Albert Cyrus Sparks (1830-1915) whose biography and genealogy appeared in the December, 1957, issue of The Sparks Quarterly, Whole No. 27, pp. 264-266. Mr. Norman Gross, a grandson of Albert Cyrus Sparks, believes that the latter's father (the subject of this photograph) was named James Albert Sparks. It is known that his wife's name was Elizabeth and that he was living in Lewis County, Kentucky, when his son Albert Cyrus was born in 1830. Later the family moved to Putnam County, Indiana. (Albert Cyrus Sparks married in Indiana and moved to Olmstead County, Minnesota; following the Civil War he moved to Missouri, later to Kansas.)

Albert Cyrus Sparks is known to have had at least two brothers, 1.2.5.10.2.11.1.10 Henry Sparks and 1.2.5.10.2.11.1.13 John Sparks, both of whom lived at one time in Putnam County, Indiana, near Cloverdale, He also had a sister or sister-in-law named 1.2.5.10.2.11.1.12 Eliza Sparks, and another sister named either Elizabeth or Sarah Kirk of near New Sharon, Iowa.

The picture of Albert Cyrus Sparks's father is here published with the hope that a member of the Association may have a copy of this same old tin-type in his family album and may be able to supply additional information. The photograph appearing here has been somewhat enlarged and a damaged spot has been retouched. Please write to Mrs. Porter or the Webmaster, if you have information on this family.

[Webmaster Note: Please see an article in Whole Number 70, which has more complete information on this family.]
