(Editor's Note: This record of the descendants of 21.1.1.5 Robert Sparks (1777-1831) by Miss White, whose home is in Shelbina, Missouri, was begun in the Quarterly of June 1967, Whole No. 58.
In addition to a sketch of the lives of Robert Sparks and his wife Isabelle (Ford) Sparks, that issue contained Miss White's record of the descendants of 21.1.1.5.1 John Ford Sparks (1799-1871), the eldest son of 21.1.1.5 Robert and Isabelle (Ford) Sparks. In this issue we present her record of the descendants of 21.1.1.5.2 James Parnell Sparks (1801-1846), the second child of Robert and Isabelle (Ford) Sparks.)
21.1.1.5.2 JAMES PARNELL SPARKS, 1801-1846
21.1.1.5.2 James Parnell Sparks, the second son of Robert and Isabelle (Ford) Sparks, probably was born in Madison County, Virginia, on January 4, 1801, and died in Monroe County, Missouri, on June 1, 1846. He was married on September 25, 1823, to Sarah Elizabeth Threlkeld. Known by her nickname "Sally", she was born in 1801 and died June 11, 1845. James Parnell Sparks moved with his family from Henry County, Kentucky, to Missouri in 1839. He and his wife are buried on their farm about six miles south-west of Shelbina, Missouri. They were the parents of thirteen children:

21.1.1.5.2.13 Mary Catherine Sparks, born February 11, 1845.21.1.1.5.2.1 Isabelle ["Ibby"] Jane Sparks was born in Henry County, Kentucky. We know that she was the eldest daughter in the family, but her exact birth date is unknown. She married David Thomas. They are known to have had at least four children:
21.1.1.5.2.1.1 Christy Gentry Thomas was born February 18, 1849; he was married in Shelby County, Missouri, on February 27, 1876, to Mary E. Stalcup of Monroe County, MO They had two daughters:
21.1.1.5.2.1.1.1 Anna B. Thomas; and
21.1.1.5.2.1.1.2 Lizzie M. Thomas.21.1.1.5.2.1.2 Bob Thomas.
21.1.1.5.2.1.3 Buddie Thomas.
21.1.1.5.2.1.4 Irvin Thomas.21.1.1.5.2.2 Elijah T. Sparks was born in Henry County, Kentucky, on December 22, 1826, and died June 24, 1866. He married Hardenia R. Maupin; she died February 2, 1853, and was buried on the James Parnell Sparks farm along with four infants, with no names. Elijah T. Sparks married, second, Virginia Maupin, who was born December 24, 1828, and died March 18, 1853(?). She also was buried on the James Parnell Sparks farm near Shelbina, Missouri. Elijah T. Sparks had one son:
21.1.1.5.2.2.1 Thomas U. Sparks married Winnie Fenley. He was a druggest and his name is on the front of a building in Shelbina, Missouri, where his business was located. It is dated 1880.
21.1.1.5.2.3 William U. Sparks was born February 2, 1828, in Henry County, Kentucky; he died February 18, 1865, and was buried in Shelbina, Missouri. He was married in Henry County, Kentucky, on October 11, 1853, to Mary E. List; she was born July 27, 1836, and died May 2, 1914; she was buried in Shelbina, Missouri. They were the parents of seven children:
21.1.1.5.2.3.1 Lucy Jane Sparks was born June 25, 1855.
21.1.1.5.2.3.2 George W. ["Shot"] Sparks was born May 25, 1856; he married Bessie Blake on February 1881. They had two children:21.1.1.5.2.3.2.1 Mary Sparks, born April 23, 1886.
21.1.1.5.2.3.2.2 George W. Sparks, born October 26, 1892; he was married in 1934 to Gladys Edwards, who was born March 17, 1902. They had one son,21.1.1.5.2.3.2.2.1 George W. Sparks III, who was born June 20, 1937.
They all live in Moberly, Missouri.
21.1.1.5.2.3.3 Leonard Smith Sparks was born June 1, 1859; he married in Shelby County, Missouri, on December 14, 1886, Sarah Adelaide "Addie" Fuqua, who was born February 21, 1863, and died October 1, 1918. Leonard died November 22, 1910. Both are buried in Shelbina, Missouri. They were the parents of four children:

21.1.1.5.2.3.3.2 Wailer Calvin Sparks, born July 25, 1889, died 1947. He married Margaret Wohlschlaeger and they had two children:21.1.1.5.2.3.3.2.1 Leonard Shelby Sparks.
21.1.1.5.2.3.3.2.2 Glorea Jane Sparks, born September 3, 1932.21.1.1.5.2.3.3.3 Julia Sparks, born September 21, 1892; never married.
21.1.1.5.2.3.3.4 Maurine Sparks, born August 24, 1896; she married Charles Mitchell Martin.21.1.1.5.2.3.4 James Powell Sparks was born December 9, 1860, and died in 1933. He married Eliza Galliher, who was born in 1865 and died in 1948. They had two children:
21.1.1.5.2.3.4.1 lone Sparks, born October 31, 1890; married Homer Brook.
21.1.1.5.2.3.4.2 Lawrence Sparks, born November 6, 1892; he is a retired dentist in Moberly, Missouri. He married Bernice Crosby and they had two daughters; he married as his second wife Lillie Mae Evens who was born April 9, 1896. His two daughters were21.1.1.5.2.3.4.2.1 Carol Jane Sparks, and
21.1.1.5.2.3.4.2.2 Dorothy Sparks.21.1.1.5.2.3.5 Nellie D. Sparks was born in 1860; she died August 13, 1861, at the age of one year. (She must have been a twin of either Leonard or James.)
21.1.1.5.2.3.6 Sarah Melvina Sparks was born October 9, 1862, and died August 12, 1862.
21.1.1.5.2.3.7 Marion Hill Sparks.21.1.1.5.2.4 Martha Margaret Sparks, daughter of James Parnell and Sally (Threlkeld) Sparks, was born in Henry County, Kentucky, June 28, 1830, and died in 1923. He married George Herndon, who was born in Kentucky in 1822 and died on June 15, 1849. He is buried on the James Parnell Sparks farm southwest of Shelbina, Missouri. Martha Margaret then married as her second husband, on March 2, 1851, Newton Adams of Pleasureville, Kentucky; he was born January 1, 1823, and died June 6, 1919. They are buried in Shelbina, Missouri. Martha Margaret was the mother of eleven children.
21.1.1.5.2.4.1 James P. Herndon was born August 5, 1849, and died March 12, 1861; he was buried on the James Parnell Sparks farm southwest of Shelbina, Missouri.
21.1.1.5.2.4.2 Sarah Catherine Adams was born November 27, 1851, and died November 24, 1948 (or 1948); she married John C. Combs, born in 1842, died 1922.
21.1.1.5.2.4.3 Anne B. Adams was born February 12, 1854, and died February 26, 1863. She is buried at Crooked Creek, Missouri.
21.1.1.5.2.4.4 Mary Susan Adams was born May 31, 1856, and died March 12, 1863. She is buried at Crooked Creek, Missouri.
21.1.1.5.2.4.5 Lucy Margaret Adams was born May 5, 1858, and died December 23, 1937. She was married on December 20, 1880, to Charles Henry "Brooks" Magruder, who was born November 30, 1853, and died December 7, 1937; he was from Monroe County, Missouri; they were married in Shelby County. Both are buried in Shelbina. They were the parents of eight children:21.1.1.5.2.4.5.1 Margaret Catherine Magruder, born October 11, 1882, in Monroe County, Missouri. She married in Monroe County on January 26,1902, Perry James, who was born March 17, 1880, and died May 6, 1962. They had two children:

21.1.1.5.2.4.5.1.2 Lloyd Magruder James, born July 21, 1913, died October 16, 1913.21.1.1.5.2.4.5.2 Travis Newton "Shelly" Magruder, born 1884, died 1932. He married Sally Patterson, who was born in 1880. They had one daughter, Adaline Magruder, who married Morris Osborn.
21.1.1.5.2.4.5.3 Pearl Magruder, born 1886; she married Verdie Patterson, who was born in 1883 and died in 1961. They had two children:21.1.1.5.2.4.5.3.1 James Henry Magruder, born November, 1918; he married Margaret Garrison on July 1, 1939. She was born September 7, 1921. They have six children:

21.1.1.5.2.4.7 Robert Preston Adams, son of Newton and Martha Margaret (Sparks) Adams, was born December 20, 1861, and died July 2, 1910. He married Martha Coard on March 25, 1897.
21.1.1.5.2.4.8 Mattie Adams, daughter of Newton and Martha Margaret (Sparks) Adams, was born January 24, 1864, and died in 1956; she was married on October 21, 1885, to W. Basil Williamson. They had five children:
21.1.1.5.2.4.8.1 Willie Mae Williamson, born October, 1886; died October 11, 1959; she married John Edward byrd, who was born November 14, 1882. They had two children:

He was married on May 30, 1894, to Anna Laura Brown, who was born March 31, 1876 in Morissa, Illinois, and died September 4, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri. They had three children:

He died January 15, 1965 in Ada County, Idaho. He had three children by his first wife:

21.1.1.5.2.4.11 Virinie Adams, daughter of Newton and Martha Margaret (Sparks) Adams, was born April 28, 1871. She died October 30, 1957; she married Henry Gerling. They had two children:21.1.1.5.2.4.11.1 John Henry Gerling, married Virginia MNU.
21.1.1.5.2.4.11.2 Pauline Gerling, married Philip John Hickey, who was born April 13, 1896, and died March 20, 1965. They had two children:21.1.1.5.2.4.11.2.1 Mary Margaret "Peggy" Hickey; she married Bill Ratz. They had a daughter named Gertrude Ratz.

21.1.1.5.2.4.11.2.2.3 Caroline Fayart.21.1.1.5.2.5 Phoebe Ann Sparks, daughter of James Parnell and Sally (Threlkeld) Sparks, was born December 3, 1831; she died January 12, 1893, and was buried in the Greenwood Methodist Cemetery near Shelbina, Missouri. She married 21.1.1.5.1.1 Fountain C. Sparks, son of John Ford and Patsy (Threlkeld) Sparks, in Henry County, Kentucky, on July 30, 1848. They were the parents of twelve children. A record of these children and their descendants appears in the record of Fountain (or Fountion) C. Sparks in the June, 1967, issue of the Quarterly, Whole No. 58, pp. 1065-1067. These twelve children were named:

He was married, first, in 1854 to Elizabeth A. Warren; she was born in 1832 and died May 1, 1862. He married as his second wife in 1865, Addlin (Lusk) Bates, who died in 1872. Robert T. Sparks then married on December 27, 1874, Eliza A. (Patrick) Withers, who was born in 1837 in Monroe County, Kentucky, and died December 9, 1911; she was buried at Crooked Creek. Robert T. Sparks had six children:

21.1.1.5.2.6.2 Mary Chatrick "Mollie" Sparks was born in Monroe County, Missouri, on December 25, 1857, and died on May 8, 1964, living to be 106 years old. She died in Quincy, Illinois, and was buried in Shelbina, Missouri. She was married on March 3, 1887, to Lee K. Maupin, at the residence of the bride's home, the minister being W. B. Craig, Baptist. 21.1.1.5.2.6.6 James Ludson Sparks, son of Robert T. and Eliza A. (Patrick) Sparks, was born March 24, 1876, and died June 18, 1906. He is buried at the Crooked Creek Baptist Cemetery south of Shelbina, Missouri.
21.1.1.5.2.7 John Franklin Sparks, son of James Parnell and Sally (Threlkeld) Sparks, was born in Missouri. He was married in Shelby County, Missouri, on March 2, 1871, to Mary B. (List) Sparks, widow of his brother, William N. Sparks. She was born July 27, 1836, and died May 2, 1914. John Franklin and Mary B. (List) Sparks were the parents of three children:

21.1.1.5.2.8 Sarah Elizabeth "Bet" Sparks, daughter of James Parnell and Sally (Threlkeld) Sparks, was born August 7, 1836, and died July 19,1921; she married Henry S. Sparks, who was a son of 21.1.1.5.1 John Ford and Patsy (Threlkeld) Sparks. He was born in Henry County, Kentucky, on December 30, 1830, and died February 19, 1892. They had two children:

(Editor's Note: A portion of the December 1967 issue of the Quarterly, Whole No. 60, was devoted to the family of 21.1.1.5.2 James Parnell Sparks who moved from Henry County, Kentucky, to Monroe County, Missouri, ca. 1839. Among the thirteen children of James Parnell Sparks was a son, 21.1.1.5.2.12 George R. Sparks, born ca. 1845. (See just above.) Descendants of George R. Sparks have sent information about his family which we now present.)
21.1.1.5.2.12 George R. Sparks married Maude Anna Snell in December 1864 and they had eight children, including three who died in infancy. Those who reached maturity were: Shasteka Charles Sparks, Panola Sparks, Tehaska Sparks, Sally Sparks, and Milton Sparks.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1 Shasteka Charles Sparks was born April 10, 1868, in Shelbina, Missouri. He married Gertrude Mac Kendrick and they had two children before she died October 12, 1903? in St. Louis, Missouri. After her death, Shasteka married Lillie Lechey Hicks by whom he had one child. Shasteka died March 5? 197? at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He and two of his siblings, Panola and Tehaska, were named for members of an Indian family which had befriended their father.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1 Ralph Merical Sparks was born January 16, 1895, at Cambridge, Ohio. He married Juliette Yvonne Sanson in France on May 29, 1916. She was born October 25, 1899, at Tours, France, and was a daughter of Emile and J. A. (Rennady) Sanson. Ralph Sparks was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces during World War I. Afterwards, he became a steamfitter construction supervisor. He died January 15, 1975, at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He and Juliette had six children:
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.1 Gisele Anita Sparks was born March 9, 1918, in France. She married Carl Kenneth Beadle and they had two children:
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.1.1 Charles K. Beadle was born March 22, 1942. He married January Devall and they had three children:

21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.1.1.2 Ken Beadle, and
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.1.1.3 Kim Beadle.21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.1.2 Ralph Andrew Sparks was born in 1944. He married Ramona Olinde and they had two children:

21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.1.2.2 Karl Sparks.21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.2 Robert Charles Sparks was born August 26, 1921, in Chilliwac, Canada. He married January Evans and they had four children:

21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.2.3.2 Lauren Sparks.21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.2.4 Ricky Joseph Sparks was born January 30, 1960.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.3 Raymond Daniel Sparks was born in 1923 in Monroe, La. He died April 5? 1926, from the effects of poison which he had accidentally eaten.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.4 Marvin Edward Sparks was born in 1924. He died April 5, 1926, in "the same accident as his brother, Raymond. They were buried in the Five Point Cemetery in Monroe, Louisiana.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.5 Annette Yvonne Sparks was born November 1, 1926, in Monroe, La. She married Kenneth Lee Cox and they had two children:21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.5.1 Don Lee Cox was born September 7, 1948. He married Patricia Ann Rook and they had two children:
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.5.1.1 Wendy Cox and
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.5.1.2 Sheila Cox.21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.5.2 Barbara Anita Cox was born February 12, 1951. She married Henry S. Herbst.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.6 Harvey Lee Sparks was born April 9, 1929, at Baton Rouge, La. He married Juanita F. Harwell on June 25, 1960. She was born July 26, 1931, and was a daughter of John B. and Mary L. (Ourso) Harwell. Harvey and Juanita have two children:
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.6.1 Deborah Ann Bergeron, born December 25, 1952 (a daughter of Juanita Harwell Bergeron Sparks). She married Charles Stanley Arnold and they have two children: Angel Faith Arnold and Dustin Charles Arnold.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.1.6.2 John Rene Sparks, born March 30, 1965.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2 Maude Althea Sparks was born January 18, 1898, at Shelbina, MO She married Robert Searcy Rasbury on March 15, 1915. She died June 10, 1975, in Austin, Texas. She and Robert had six children:
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2.1 Esther Louise Rasbury was born November 26, 1916.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2.2 Marjorie Elizabeth Rasbury was born September 8, 1918. She married McDonald Hunt.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2.3 Robert Search Rasbury, Jr. was born May 11, 1922.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2.4 Ramona June Rasbury was born June 1, 1929.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2.5 Wanda Delores Rasbury was born February 26, 1931.
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.2.6 Glenn Darwin Rasbury was born November 1, 1932.21.1.1.5.2.12.1.3 Paul Anderson Sparks was born January 1, 1905, at Commerce, MO. He was a professional musician. He married Pauline Otto and they had four children:

21.1.1.5.2.12.1.3.3 Linda Sparks, and
21.1.1.5.2.12.1.3.4 John Sparks.21.1.1.5.2.12.2 Panola Sparks, daughter of George and Maude (Snell) Sparks, was born ca. 1870. She was usually referred to as "Nola."
21.1.1.5.2.12.3 Tehaska Sparks probably was born in the 1870s. He married a woman named Emma MNU.
21.1.1.5.2.12.4 Sally Sparks was probably born in the 1870s. She was living in 1927 and attended the funeral of her brother, Shasteka, in 1927 with her husband.
21.1.1.5.2.12.5 Milton "Milt" Sparks probably was born in the 1870s. He is said to have married a woman from the state of New York and lived there. They were managers of a dairy.
