SPARKS MILL at LYNNVILLE, IOWA |
Here, in 1846, John R. Sparks constructed a small paddle-wheel sawmill. Power for the mill was supplied from a mill pond which was created by the back-water of a large wooden dam across the North Skunk River. He soon added a gristmill to make flour by buying the best French buhrstones he could find. The nearest other mill was at Oskaloosa. The present dam (shown above) was built during the winter of 1918-1919.
