This is a map of the area in western North Carolina where several members of the Sparks family of Frederick County, Maryland, settled in the decade 1754-1764. See the article on William Sparks (ca.1725-1801/02) which follows. Today's counties are shown, although from 1753 until 1770, this area was all part of Rowan County. In 1770, Surry County was cut off from Rowan and included Wilkes, Stokes, Forsyth, and Yadkin Counties. Iredell County was cut off from Rowan in 1788; Davidson in 1822; and Davie in 1836. |
