SAMUEL SPARKS OF PIATT COUNTY, ILLINOIS
A book entitled The Good Life in Piatt County, a History of Piatt County, Illinois published in 1968 and edited by Jessie Borror Morgan, states that when the county was organized in 1841, there were about 700 people living there. On page 163 it is stated: "The Methodist Episcopal Church of Bement was the first in the village. It was formerly organized in 1858 under the pastorate of Edward Rutledge, with meetings held in the schoolhouse in Bryant's Hall. It was known as the M.E.Society, and its services were attended by most of the people of the community until the Christian Church was formed in 1862. The first trustees were: J. H. Taylor, William Parker, William Stillwell, James McDowell, Elias Baldwin,Thomas Postlewait, SAMUEL SPARKS, and C. D. Moore." Can anyone identify this Samuel Sparks?
