WHO WAS THOMAS B. SPARKS
WHO DIED ON AUGUST 18, 1848, IN LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA?
Important clues regarding one's ancestors are often found in obscure sources. In a publication edited by William Henry Egle in 1899 entitled NOTES AND QUERIES... RELATING CHIEFLY TO INTERIOR PENNSYLVANIA, a subscriber named S. M. Sener wrote that he had in his possession invitations which had been received by his great-grandfather during 1841-1855 "to attend the funeral obsequies and interments of a number of old Lancaster residents." Among the invitations to attend a funeral was one which Mr. Sener reported as follows:
Thomas B. Sparks, from residence of Jacob Gumpf, Church street, on Friday, August 18, 1848.
Can anyone identify this Thomas B. Sparks whose funeral in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was held on August 18, 1848? We assume that Jacob Gumpf must have been a relative or close friend. Please write to your editor, Russell E. Bidlack, 1709 Cherokee Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48104, if you have information.
